Faces, 2021

When I was young, I used to pray every night before I slept. The prayer was so long because I had to name everyone I believed was in heaven: my grandparents, the Christ, Virgin Mary, Saints, the Holy Spirits, and so on. But then I also went on and called the Buddha, Allah, and lists went on and on with whoever was sacred to me. I could rarely get into the actual prayer as I fell asleep while I was listing those names that went on forever. Likewise, I have been religious but not in a conventional way. As I grew up, Catholicism grew more in me but as an artist, I questioned the essence of the religion. I found a huge interest in the space that creates such a sacred atmosphere and the 'representations' there, such as statues of saints. The work will be a video loop made of still images of saint statues from the St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, Austria.
